AMESBURY — The North Reading High girls’ tennis team climbed back to the .500 mark on Monday afternoon as they won, 4-1, at Amesbury, on a sunny, warm day.

With the win, the Hornets improved to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in the Cape Ann League.

Althea Bradley won at first singles, 6-4, 6-2. Matilda Ton won, 6-3, 6-1, at second singles.
Shenaya Verma played at third singles and won, 6-1, 6-1.

“That win cliched the match for us,” pointed out Hornets head coach Matt Tiberii, about Verma. “It was a gutsy performance.”

In doubles action, the first team of Aniya Taneja and Addison Stetson won in three sets. They won the opening set, 6-2, lost the second one, 4-6, and then won a tight final set, 7-6 (7-4 in the tiebreaker).

“That was a great battle,” said Tiberii.

The second team of Maddy Barnes-Felix and Karina Mountain lost, 6-4, 6-1.

“We had an 11-day layoff so I was happy with the way we played,” said Tiberii, as the Hornets had the April Vacation Week off last week.

The schedule will be very busy for the Hornets the next week.

On Thursday, North Reading visits Pentucket. They then welcome Rockport on May 5.

On May 6, they host Pentucket.

The team will then play for the third-straight day on May 7 as they host Triton. All four matches will start at 4 p.m.
