Artists recognized LAG’s Spring Arts Festival

LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield Art Guild’s Spring Arts Festival on Saturday, May 3 was a day filled with art, music, creativity, home baked delights and community sharing that celebrating the LAG’s 61st year.  

“Thanks to our many volunteers and supporters, visitors enjoyed a Fine Art Show and Sale, bake sale, art vendors, local organization tables, face painting by Lynnfield High School student Roxanne Beatrice, raffles and a rousing concert by the Swamptones,” said LAG member Beth Aaronson.

The Spring Arts Festival’s judges, Deidre Tao, Laurie Schmidt and Robin D’Antona, presented ribbons and awards in several categories. 

In the Oil/Acrylic category, Leslie Scott-Lysan received the first place prize for “Fall Vista: Mount Lafayette.” Priscilla March earned the second place prize for “Dandelion Road.” Dan Abenaim received the third place prize for “Down by the Riverbank.”  Matthew Martelli earned an honorable mention prize for “Pont Saint Michael.” 

For the Watercolor/Pastel category, the first place prize went to Lorraine O’Brien for “Dish of Flowers.” Shaila Desai received the second place prize for “Colorful Pots.” Maya Jacob earned the third place prize for “Fresh Fish.” Shaila Desai received an honorable mention prize for “Monsoon Reflections.” 

In the Mixed Media category, the first place prize was given to Kimberly Morrow for “Maybe She’s a Wildflower.” Hedy Sanni was given a second place prize for “Flower Spirit.” The third place prize was presented to Brian Edmonds for “Beyond the Trees.” Leslie Chang received an honorable mention prize for “Colonial in Fall.” 

For the Photography category, the first place prize was given to Catherine Grassello for “Goodnight Pink House.” Greg Pronevitz earned the second place prize for “Red Knots in Motion.” The third place prize was given to Grassello for “Spinner’s Gulls.” An honorable mention prize was presented to William Mullen for “Mine.”

Sue Collins won the first annual Jeanne Rose Award for Excellence with the photograph “Magical Glow Aurora Borealis.”

Lynnfield High School students won prizes for Student Art during the festival. Senior Kayla Santo received the first place prize for “The Broken Mirror” (watercolor, gouache, pen and ink). The second place prize was awarded to junior Jerusha Robins for “Untitled” (oil paint, glass). The third place prize was given to senior Roseann Beatrice for “Grandma’s Wings” (colored pencil). Senior Caitlin Buoniconti received an honorable mention prize for “Teenage Girl” (graphite pencils). 

The Savings Bank Artist Awards were also presented during the Spring Arts Festival. Pat O’Connor received the first place prize for “Purple Cascade.” Frank Tomasello earned the second place prize for “Wildflowers III.” The Savings Bank student awards were given to first place winner Caitlin Buoniconti’s “Teenage Girl” and Emily Toscano’s second place award for the colored pencil and gouache work “Plenty of Fish in the Sea.”
