NORTH READING — The North Reading High boys’ track and field team delivered a commanding performance on April 29, defeating Cape Ann League rival Triton by a score of 93-52 in a dual meet packed with personal bests, breakout performances, and dominant field event victories. The Hornets are now 3-0 in dual meets this season.

The Hornets wasted no time establishing control on the track, led by senior sprinter Kieran Miller, who won both the 100 meters (11.59) and 200 meters (22.89). He was joined by fellow senior Maxwell Gulino, who finished second in both events, running a personal-best 23.02 in the 200. North Reading took four of the top six spots in the 100 meters and three of the top five in the 200, setting the tone for a strong sprinting showcase.

Junior Seth Evans chipped in crucial points in the 400 meters with a personal-best 52.95 for second place, while sophomore Nalo Benedict continued his breakout season in the distance events, finishing second in both the mile (4:57.80) and the two-mile (11:23.50).

In the hurdles, North Reading swept the top two spots in the 110-meter high hurdles behind senior Daniil Baranetski (15.82 PR) and senior Kaio Pancini (15.99 PR). The Hornets also earned first place in the 400-meter hurdles thanks to senior Torin Nickerson (1:02.47).

The field events were a major strength for North Reading, where the Hornets dominated the throwing circle. Junior Otto Indelicato won the shot put with a massive throw of 49-3, while junior Leo Romanski stole the show in the discus with a meet-best 161-6, more than 40 feet ahead of the next closest competitor. Senior Jason Lord took first in the javelin (129-9), followed closely by teammate Nikolas Laverdiere (128-9), giving North Reading a clean sweep of the throwing events.

North Reading also showed its depth in the jumps and pole vault. Senior Nicolas Johnson cleared 10-6 to win the pole vault, while junior Benjamin Cook tied for third in the high jump with a personal best of 5-6.

Although Triton had standout performances of their own — notably Cassidy McBee, who swept the mile (4:54.75) and two-mile (10:54.89), and Jack Lyman, who won the 400 meters in 50.45 — North Reading’s team depth and balanced attack across all event groups proved too much to overcome.

With the win, North Reading continues to build momentum as they wrapped up the regular season against Pentucket at home on Wednesday after press time and head toward the postseason.
