Enjoyed long walks and watching Boston team sports
MELROSE — Daniel J. Hicks, a lifelong resident of Melrose, died unexpectedly on April 29 at the age of 39. Born in Stoneham on December 3, 1985 to Joan (Mulcahy) and Alan Hicks; he was raised in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School in 2005.
Daniel worked at Prince Pizza for 21 years where he was known for his dedication and willingness to always lend a hand. He took great pride in his work and was a valued member of the Prince family. Dan was a huge sports fan; he loved rooting for his Boston teams and Alabama football. He was an easygoing, helpful person with a selfless attitude. Dan enjoyed going for long walks, spending time with his niece and nephew, and attending sporting events.
Daniel was the loving son of Alan and Joan (Mulcahy) Hicks of Melrose. Caring brother of Jennifer Palmason and her husband Erik of Wakefield and Laura Hicks of Melrose. Proud uncle of Olivia and Noah. Beloved grandson of Mary Hicks and the late John Hicks of Melrose and the late William and Catherine Mulcahy of Melrose. He is also survived by and will be greatly missed by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, coworkers and his good friend Jamie.
Visiting hours were held on Tuesday, May 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose. A funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7 at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield. Interment followed the mass at Wyoming Cemetery, 205 Sylvan St., Melrose.
