Early voting for Special Town Election now underway

LYNNFIELD — Early voting for the June 4 Special Town Election will begin on Saturday, May 24. 

Spring Town Meeting voted to send the proposed $4.65 million Proposition 2 ½ override to the Special Town Election on Wednesday, June 4. The proposed override seeks to address the town’s $4 million deficit and $650,000 for school technology upgrades and replacements.

Early voting will begin in the temporary Town Clerk’s Office, 525 Salem St., Door 4, on Saturday, May 24, taking place from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. 

After Memorial Day weekend, early voting will continue from Tuesday, May 27 through Thursday, May 29, taking place from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Early voting will conclude on Friday, May 30 from 8:30-12:30 p.m.

Town Clerk Amanda Haggstrom said residents can also vote-by-mail for the Special Town Election on June 4. 

“Ballots have been mailed out for those who have already requested to vote-by-mail for the June 4 override election,” Haggstrom wrote on the Lynnfield Town Clerk’s Office Facebook page. “Ballots can be returned via the postage pre-paid envelope or in the drop box located outside of the temporary offices at 525 Salem St. Ballots must be received by the Town Clerk’s Office by 8 p.m. on June 4. The deadline to submit an application to vote-by-mail is May 28 at 5 p.m.” 

In order to vote-by-mail, Haggstrom said residents must submit a signed 2025 vote-by-mail application to the Town Clerk’s Office or by using the Secretary of State Office’s online portal. 

The last day to register to vote for the Special Town Election is Saturday, May 24 at 5 p.m. The last day to apply for a vote-by-mail ballot is 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 24. The last day to apply for an absentee ballot in-person is Tuesday, June 3 at 5 p.m. 

If voters reject the proposed override during the Special Town Election on June 4, the School Department will be forced to lay off 56 employees, the Lynnfield Public Library will be forced to lay off 15 employees and the Lynnfield Senior Center will also be forced to lay off employees. The library would also lose its certification if the override loses.
