NORTH READING — The North Reading boys’ track and field team continued their dominance in the Cape Ann League on May 6, capping off an undefeated regular season (4-0) with a decisive 90-55 victory over Pentucket. The win on Senior Night secured back-to-back Cape Ann League regular season titles for the Hornets and showcased their depth across all events.
Senior Kieran Miller led the charge on the track, sprinting to first-place finishes in both the 100 meters (11.36) and 200 meters (22.80 PR), while also contributing to the Hornets’ winning 4×100 relay alongside Max Gulino, Benjamin Wells, and Tanner DuPriest (45.44).
North Reading dominated the sprint events, taking five of the top six spots in the 100m and sweeping the top four in the varsity 200m. Gulino and DuPriest added critical points, placing third and fourth respectively in the 200m, with Wells just behind in sixth.
In the hurdles, the Hornets delivered a clean sweep in the 110m and 400m varsity events. Daniil Baranetski won the 110m hurdles (16.00), while senior Torin Nickerson took the 400m hurdles in a personal best of 1:01.08. Freshman Nico Auciello made a mark of his own, placing second in the varsity 400m hurdles (1:11.56 PR) and earning his first-ever second-place finish in a varsity meet—an exciting milestone for the promising newcomer.
Distance events saw solid performances as well. Nalo Benedict claimed victory in the 2-mile (11:00.39) and Alexander Mitasev placed third in the mile with a personal best of 5:13.19.
In the field, North Reading overpowered Pentucket with impressive performances in the throws. Otto Indelicato (47’11”) and Leonardo Romanski (44’1”) went 1-2 in the shot put, then swapped positions in the discus, where Romanski launched a 141’8” mark to take the win. Nikolas Laverdiere added a second-place finish in javelin (146’10” PR), highlighting the Hornets’ strength across all throwing disciplines.
Junior varsity athletes also had a strong showing, with standout efforts from Brendan Trentsch (JV 100m winner), Kaio Pancini (JV 200m winner) and David Duran, who won both the JV shot put and javelin.
