NORTH READING — Thank you to Dr. J. Steven Tonelli, who is retiring on May 20 after 45 years of providing excellence in dentistry.

Dr. Tonelli is a gracious listener who focuses not only on all the clinical details, but also on the overall well-being of the patient. He uses the latest technology and techniques to provide the best care possible. Luckily for his patients, he leaves a thriving practice at Dental Health Concepts, 205 Main St. Their highly skilled staff of nearly 40 team members, which includes Dr. Brian Crowley, Dr. Mark Webster, and Dr. Andrew Tonelli, provides a friendly, caring and comfortable atmosphere.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Tonelli has served on many boards and committees at the local, state and national level, including the Board of Advisors at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and the editorial board of the Journal of the Massachusetts Dental Society. He was on the faculty of the Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Studies in Key Biscayne, Florida, and has generously shared his vast knowledge with students and colleagues across the country.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists, where he served as an International Councilman. He has been chairman of the oldest honorary dental society in the country, the Academy of Dental Science, as well as the past chairman of the J. Murray Gavel Lectureship at the Forsyth Dental Institute.

In 2016 Dr. Tonelli received the ICD’s District 1 Distinguished Service Award as well as the Massachusetts Dental Society’s highest honor, The Etherington Award.

Most important in Dr. Tonelli’s life is his family. He and his wife, Peg, have three sons and seven grandchildren. He and Peg love to travel and have been near and far for relaxation and adventure. Skiing in Vermont and golfing on the Cape are his favorite activities.
