Netmen push winning streak to four
By STEPHEN MARTELLUCCI

MALDEN — The Lynnfield High boys’ tennis team won its fourth-straight match on Friday as they beat host Mystic Valley, 4-1, in Malden.
Lynnfield was able to sweep the season series against the Cape Ann League newcomers with the win.
The Pioneers improved to 12-3 overall and 9-3 in the CAL as they are in second place in the CAL Kinney Division behind Newburyport.
Shea McCarthy won, 1-6, 7-5, and 5-4, at first singles as his opponent, Jay Raj, retired due to an injury.
“That was the most exciting match I have seen Shea play this season,” stated Pioneers head coach Joe Dunn. “Raj was undefeated in the league this year and beat Shea, 6-0, 6-0, in the first meeting so it was a great turnaround.”
Shlok Kudrimoti lost, 6-2, 6-4, at second singles while third singles player, Matt Reinold, won, 6-4, 4-0 (retired).
In doubles action, the first team of Raffi Arkun and Rishabh Anand won 6-2, 6-0. The second team of Ritvik Mahajan and Brady Trippe won 6-3, 6-0.
The day before, the Pioneers edged host North Reading, 3-2, to complete the season sweep over the Hornets.
McCarthy won with matching 6-4 scores while Kudrimoti lost, 6-4, 6-1. Reinold won at third singles, 7-5, 6-3.
Arkun and Rowan Bayer lost, 7-6 (7-4 in the tiebreaker), 6-3 at first doubles. Anand and Andee Shieh, meanwhile, won, 6-4, 6-4, at second doubles.
“We showed a lot of fatigue that match,” pointed out Dunn. “I was happy to get that win.”
On May 14, the Pioneers blanked Pentucket, 5-0, on the road to sweep the Panthers this spring.
McCarthy won, in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2. Kudrimoti won, 6-4, 2-6, 10-4 as the final set was a first-to-10 points with the match already decided.
Reinold won, 6-1, 6-0.
Arkun and Shieh won, 6-3, 6-0, while Anand and Mahajan won, with matching, 6-1, scores.
“We played well that day,” said Dunn.
Lynnfield wraps up the regular season at Marblehead on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
On Friday, the seedings will come out for the Division 4 state tournament.
The Pioneers entered this week as the 2nd seed in the MIAA Power Rankings.
