LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield High baseball team made it 11 in a row with an 11-6, road win over Essex Tech on Monday, improving to 15-3 on the season and capping another impressive, 4-0 week.

That victory proceeded wins over Rockport (2-0) on May 13, Amesbury (5-4) on May 15 and Pentucket (10-7) on May 17.

Junior Joey Wozniak got the win over Rockport, pitching a complete-game shutout. He surrendered just 5 hits and no walks while striking out 9 in a dominant effort.

The Pioneers put up one run in the 5th and one more in the 6th. The game-winning run in the 5th started with a two-out rally by senior Charlie Morgan who doubles and scored on a base hit by senior Nick Groussis. The insurance run came on a solo shot by senior Madux Iovinelli.

Wozniak took it from there.

Lynnfield’s win over Amesbury was a walk-off as Iovinelli was the hero with a double to score Groussis, creating an epic celebration as the Pioneers secured their 9th straight victory. Iovinelli went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI. Senior Walter Radulski also had multiple hits going 2-for-3. Juniors Matthew Tracy and Harris Hadzihasanovic added RBI hits.

Radulski pitched well through 6 innings, allowing just 4 hits and 2 runs while fanning 8.

The Pioneers won a barn-burner against Pentucket on Saturday at LHS. The team celebrated their five seniors before the game.

A 2-2 contest was busted open when the two squads combined for 13 runs in the 6th inning. The Panthers put up 5 to make it 7-2 before the Pioneers came roaring back with 8 runs before shutting out the visitors in the 7th to seal it.

Lynnfield had 10 hits in the win. Groussis, Iovinelli, senior Tyler Adamo, junior Dylan Nguyen and junior Drew George each had 2 hits.

Lynnfield’s 8-run 6th began with a Nguyen single. Two hit batters set up an RBI single from Groussis and Iovinelli followed with RBI hit of his own to make it 7-4. Later with two outs and still trailing by three, George came through with an RBI single and a liner by Tracy along with an error resulted in Iovinelli and junior Luke DiSilvio coming around to tie it.

Nguyen then had the hit of the day with the bases juiced, clearing them on a game-winning, 3-RBI double to finish up the 6th.

Lynnfield’s bats stayed hot in their senior night win over the Hawks, collecting 11 runs on 10 hits. Nguyen was 3-for-5 with 2 RBI. Tracy, Radulski and DiSilvo all added 2 RBI and Groussis had 3 hits an RBI and a run scored.

DiSilvio got the win on the mound allowing 5 hits and 3 earned in 5 innings. Wozniak shut the door in the final two frames.

The Pioneers set the tone with a 4-run 2nd inning to open the scoring. Two walks and an RBI double by Tracy made it 1-0 before an RBI single by Nguyen made it 2-0. Adamo hit a sac fly and Groussis had an RBI single to make it 4-0.

The visitors extended their lead to 8-2 in the 5th and rolled from there.

Lynnfield has two games remaining in the regular season as they will look to defend their title in the Brendan Grant Tournament on Friday and Saturday at Belmont High. The Pioneers were ranked No. 2 in the latest Div. 4 power rankings released on Tuesday morning. Pittsfield (14-4) is ranked No. 1.
