Three straight wins to end the regular season for girls’ lacrosse team
By STEPHEN MARTELLUCCI

WAKEFIELD — The Lynnfield High girls’ lacrosse team won its final regular-season game on Friday as they edged host Wakefield, 13-12, in a non-league match on a cool, damp evening.
With that victory, the Pioneers finished at 8-12 as they won their final three games.
Trailing 7-4 at halftime, the Pioneers rallied in the second stanza outscoring the Warriors, 10-5.
“The girls worked much harder in the second half,” explained Pioneers head coach Christina Serra. “We did much better with our draws and got to more of the ground balls.”
Lynnfield was able to knot the game at nine after the third quarter.
The Valiton sisters, Taylor and Hayden, each scored five times and Serra was pleased with the job Taylor did in winning the draws in the second half.
Ava Damiani had two goals and a team-high four assists while Jordan Calichman had one goal and a pair of assists.
Pioneer goalie, Olivia Sylvester, made seven saves.
On May 20, in their final Cape Ann League game of the season, the Pioneers defeated Georgetown, 19-6, at home.
This one was decided early as the Pioneers were up, 12-4, at the half.
“They have a small roster and came into the game shorthanded,” said Serra of the Royals.
Taylor Valiton had a career-high 12 points with eight goals and four assists. Hayden Valiton also had a big day with three goals and three assists.
Damiani had five points with three goals and two assists.
Hannah Ozanian had a goal and two assists while Maeve Wertz and Alex Schmidt both had one goal and one assist.
Rori Caprio and Ereeny Georges both had one tally once to round out the scoring.
Sylvester also made seven stops in this game.
Lynnfield ended up at 5-9 in the CAL with the win as they completed the season sweep over the Royals. The Pioneers won the first meeting, 21-12, back on May 5 in Georgetown.
The Pioneers finished in fourth place in the CAL Baker Division.
Lynnfield entering this week, was seeded 15th in the MIAA Division 4 power rankings. They will find out on Wednesday after press time who they will host in the first round of the tournament.
