Loved traveling, cooking and rollercoasters
WAKEFIELD — Mary M. (Allenshepski) DiCarlo, a woman whose life was defined by selflessness, humor and boundless love, passed away suddenly at home on Tuesday, May 20 at the age of 58, following a courageous yearlong battle with cancer.
Born on November 4, 1966, in North Charleston, SC, Mary was the only daughter among four children of the late John and Catherine (Murray) Allenshepski. Raised in Hyde Park where she graduated from high school, Mary would go on to build a life full of joy, laughter and deep devotion to family.
It took a few tries, but Mary eventually agreed to a date with Salvy DiCarlo to a wrestling match, no less. True to form, they spent the evening laughing and from that moment, their story began. They married on April 25, 1992 and made their home in Wakefield where they raised three children and created a beautiful life together.
Mary poured her heart into her family. While managing the home and raising their children, she also helped run the office of Sal’s successful HVAC business, Unified Mechanical. Along with Sal, Mary never missed a game, recital or band competition. She supported her children with boundless love, a laugh-out-loud sense of humor and a knack for turning everyday moments into silly shenanigans.
Mary and Sal shared a love for travel, especially cruises and relaxing at their cottage in Old Orchard Beach, ME. At home, she found joy in gardening, in the company of her beloved pets especially her dog Lacey and in the constant presence of her children and extended family. With an open-door policy and an even more open heart, Mary welcomed everyone with a warm smile, a quick-witted joke or a home cooked meal.
She had a deep love for reading, cooking, gardening and despite doctor’s advice rollercoasters. Her sweet tooth was well known and she was never without her nightly treat: a perfectly chilled glass of chocolate milk. Each holiday season, she delighted neighbors with homemade cookies and spent the year carefully stockpiling the most thoughtful Christmas gifts always with her family in mind.
Mary was the embodiment of kindness and generosity with a loving personality and a hilarious, often self-deprecating sense of humor that lit up every room. Fiercely independent, she gave freely, never asked for much and never expected anything in return.
Above all, she was a devoted wife, a loving mother and a proud grandmother. Mary leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love and loyalty. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her unwavering dedication to her family, her incomparable spirit and the joy she brought to everyone lucky enough to know her.

Mary was the beloved wife of the late Salvy DiCarlo with whom she shared 32 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Joseph DiCarlo and his wife Aliera of N. Branford, CT; Andrew DiCarlo of Wakefield; and Nina DiCarlo of Wakefield. Loving grandmother or “Memaw” of Hayden and Greyson. Dear sister of John Allenshepski, Robert Allenshepski and the late Scott Allenshepski. Also survived by best dog pal Lacey and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to gather in honor of Mary’s life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Monday, May 26 from 3 to 7 p.m. and again on Tuesday, May 27 at 9:15 a.m. before leaving in procession to the Lazarus Center for Healing Shrine, formerly St. Florence Church, 47 Butler Ave., Wakefield for her funeral Mass celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
