
WESTFIELD — The NRHS boys’ track and field team earned a 3rd-place finish at the MIAA Division 5 State Championship last weekend at Westfield State, turning in a well-rounded team effort across multiple events.
Leading the way was Otto Indelicato, who won the Shot Put with a personal best of 52 feet, 7 inches, breaking his own school record. Indelicato’s victory was one of several key performances that helped push the Hornets onto the podium.
Leo Romanski added a second-place finish in the Discus Throw, while Nico Johnson also took second in the Pole Vault, closing out a strong senior season.
Kieran Miller scored in three events, placing third in the Long Jump and sixth in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes.
Damian Andrusyshyn placed fourth in the Pole Vault, contributing important points in a competitive field.
The team was anchored by its senior leadership, with a special acknowledgement to graduating senior captains Kaio Pancini, Nik LaVerdiere, Kieran Miller, Torin Nickerson, Michael Mahoney, and Nico Johnson for their efforts and impact on the program.
Looking ahead, the Hornets will return a strong core, including junior captains Otto Indelicato and Leo Romanski, who will lead next year’s squad.
CAL Open Champs
The Hornets captured the Cape Ann League Meet Championship in dominant fashion on May 24, with top-three finishes across nearly every event and standout performances in sprints, hurdles, field events, and relays.
Leading the way was senior Kieran Miller, who was named Cape Ann League Athlete of the Year and Athlete of the Meet. Miller delivered a historic performance, sweeping the 100 meters (11.07) and 200 meters (22.70 PR) and setting a meet and school record in the long jump (22’8.5”). His triple-gold outing solidified his place as one of the top athletes in the region.
North Reading’s depth was on full display throughout the meet, with the following top-three finishes:
Sprints and Hurdles
100m Dash: 1st – Kieran Miller (11.07).
200m Dash: 1st – Kieran Miller (22.70 PR)
110m Hurdles: 2nd – Daniil Baranetski (15.72), 3rd – Kaio Pancini (15.93 PR)
Relays
4×100 Meter Relay: 2nd – Seth Evans, Mason Tauro, Benjamin Wells, Maxwell Gulino (45.31).
Field Events
Shot Put: 1st – Otto Indelicato (49’1.5”), 4th – Leonardo Romanski (44’4.75”).
Discus: 1st – Leonardo Romanski (139’5”), 2nd – Otto Indelicato (133’11”).
Javelin: 2nd – Nikolas Laverdiere (134’5”).
Pole Vault: 1st – Nicolas Johnson (12’0”)
Long Jump: 1st – Kieran Miller (22’8.5” MR), 2nd – Brendan Trentsch (20’7”).
Triple Jump: 3rd – Nicolas Johnson (40’6” PR).
North Reading’s complete team effort, led by veterans and boosted by underclassmen, earned them a well-deserved league championship.
