WESTON — The season came to an end for the North Reading High boys’ tennis team on Tuesday afternoon as they lost, 5-0, at Weston in the MIAA Division 3 state tournament Round of 16 match on a warm, sunny day.

With the defeat, the 11th-seeded Hornets end the 2025 campaign at 14-6. Sixth-seeded Weston, meanwhile, improved to 8-7.

The Wildcats are the defending Div. 3 state champions.

“They are very strong up top and both doubles teams are good,” said Hornets head coach Mark Bisognano. “Their number-one singles player is easily the best player we have seen this season and I think that their second and third players were respectively the strongest players we’ve seen at their positions.”
Senior co-captain, Parker Lee, was shutout, 6-0, 6-4, by Peter Chen at first singles, while second-singles player, Kellen Tiberii, fell to Winston Starrlett, 6-2, 6-1.

Raffi Toby played at third singles and he lost, 6-1, 6-1, to Jacob Wu.

In doubles action, the first duo of John Pastore and Nolan Pierce lost, 6-4, 6-2, against Nate Ko and Sigany Ding. The second team of Connor Abruzzese and Sameer Murthy, fell, 6-1, 6-3, to Sammy Regelman and Ben Rosenfeld.

In their playoff opener on May 28, the Hornets beat guest Dighton-Rehoboth, 4-1, in the Round of 32.

Lee lost, 6-0, 7-5 to Ty Perry but Tiberri beat Alex Verma in three sets, 5-7, 6-1, 10-7. Toby won at third singles, 6-0, 6-3 over James Czech.

Pastore and Pierce won, 6-1, 6-0, over Logan Silva and Aiden Marquis. Abruzzese and Murthy also won in straight sets over Trevor Jefferson and Abram Bonin, 6-1, 6-0.

“It was a solid win,” said Bisognano. “We showed our depth in this one as the two doubles matches were off the court first and Raffi clinched the third point. Parker played an incredible second set after struggling in the first. Kellen started down 0-4 and then stormed back to tie the first set at 5-5, but his opponent recovered and won the first set. However, he had nothing left in the tank and Kellen cruised the rest of the way.”

With that defeat, the 22nd-seeded Falcons end the year at 6-7.
