MELROSE — Saturday, June 7 saw hundreds of Melrose residents turn out for the 11th annual Swap Day. Sponsored by Zero Waste Melrose, Swap Day is an event where neighbors bring their reusable items for other neighbors to take for free! It’s a benefit for both and a benefit to the environment as well by greatly reducing what goes into the waste stream. For example, one little girl came away with a fully furnished doll house.
Special thanks to Simple Recycling, a recycling business, for carrying away leftover goods. Check out their website at simplerecycling.com if you want to schedule a free pickup of your used clothing, appliances, textiles and so on. Special thanks too to Bay State Books, baystatebooks.com, a provider of book recycling services focused on repurposing old books. The company offers programs to collect old and unwanted books and distribute them to different libraries and schools, enabling the reuse of books and reducing waste.
