Steve Maio is WSSC 4th of July 2025 Honoree

STEPHEN MAIO

WAKEFIELD — The West Side Social Club Fourth of July Committee is proud to honor a local resident who has made an impact on the Town of Wakefield in so many ways.

This year’s honoree is Town Administrator Stephen P. Maio

Steve Maio was born in Malden on April 26, 1962, the son of Dr. Stephen and Dorothy Maio. He, along with his three sisters, Nancy (Colaruso), Susan (Gardner), and Katherine (Gibbons) moved to Wakefield in 1967 where they all attended Wakefield schools. Steve attended Hurd Elementary School and graduated from Wakefield Memorial High School in 1980, while his father served as Wakefield’s Superintendent of Schools.

He graduated in 1984 with a degree in International Economics from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. He then attended Suffolk University and received a law degree in 1990.

Steve worked for Salem Five for seven years, where he was named Vice President of Mortgage Originations. In 1995, he began practicing law and opened his own law office in Danvers, soon to relocate a few years later to Wakefield.

Steve has been married to his wife, Jean, since 1985. Jean is a retired teacher from Wakefield Public Schools. Together, they raised three sons, Stephen, Justin, and Nicholas in Wakefield. The boys attended Wakefield schools, with all of them graduating from Wakefield Memorial High School.

Being active in Wakefield community service, Steve enjoyed coaching his boys in basketball, soccer and baseball for many years.

He served on the Greenwood School Council and the Zoning Board of Appeals before he won a seat on the Wakefield Board of Selectman in 1999. Steve served on the board for nine years, until his appointment as the Town Administrator in 2008. He recently announced his retirement at the end of June 2025 after serving as Town Administrator for the past 17 years.

Steve and his wife, Jean, have four grandsons, Stephen, Samuel, George and Theodore and plan to spend much time with them in his retirement.

The West Side Social Club 4th of July Committee has recognized his unwavering devotion to the Town of Wakefield and his endless work to make Wakefield the best town that it is and is proud to honor him with this year’s spectacular Fireworks Display over the shores of Lake Quannapowitt.
