LYNNFIELD — Four members of the Lynnfield High boys’ lacrosse team were named to the Cape Ann League All-Star teams this spring. Two Pioneers made the CAL First-Team All-Stars while two others made the Second Team.

Kelan Cardinal and Mike Murphy were the two First-Team All-Stars.

For Cardinal, a senior captain, it was his third All-Star appearance as he made the Second Team as a sophomore and First Team as a junior.

The midfielder had 45 goals and 42 assists for 87 points. He also had 73 ground balls and 32 takeaways.

“He played almost every position for us this year,” said Lynnfield head coach Pat Lamusta. “He is a skilled leader and had a tremendous season.”

Cardinal, who is going to Endicott College this fall, is ranked first in team history in points with 320 and assists with 181. He is second all-time in goals with 139.

Murphy, a senior attacker, made the First Team for the second year in a row. He had 79 points with 45 goals and 34 assists. He also had 15 takeaways.

“He is an incredible athlete,” stated Lamusta. “He was great at dodging and he improved every year.”

Murphy is going to Indiana University this September.

The two Pioneers making the CAL Second-Team All-Stars are Ben Pimentel and Brendan Driscoll.

Pimentel, a four-year varsity goalie, made the Second-Team All-Stars for the second year in a row. He had a goals-against average of 12.1 and a save percentage of 52. Overall, he made 208 saves as he went 13-7 in net.

“We had a pretty new defense this year so his leadership was pivotal,” pointed out Lamusta. “He did a great job vocally with our new defenders.”

For Driscoll, it was his first time making an All-Star team.

“He was great in the clear,” said Lamusta, about the junior defenseman. “He always covered the opponents’ best player and his fielding was strong.”

Driscoll had a team-high 61 ground balls and caused 26 turnovers. He had six points with three goals and three assists.

The Pioneers had another solid season as they were edged by host Littleton, 13-12, in the MIAA Division 4 Round of 16. They finished at 13-7 overall.

Lynnfield was 9-4 in the Cape Ann League, tying Ipswich for second place in the CAL Baker Division behind Manchester-Essex.
