Enjoyed helping people and being active in sports and recreation
RALEIGH, N.C. — It is with sadness and much love that we announce the passing of Henry Joseph “Hank” Zurawel on June 10, 2025 at the age of 95.
Henry is survived by his brother, Edwin Zurawel, his sister, Julie Kobielski, and his children, Kathleen Zurawel, Mark Zurawel (Martha), Brian Zurawel (Joe), and Paul Zurawel (Michele), six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by Louise, his wife of 64 years, his brother, Frank Zurawel and his sisters, Helen Strojny and Josephine Pelletier.
Henry was raised in Taunton, Mass. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Catholic University and two master’s degrees from Northeastern University. He and Louise raised their family in North Reading, Mass. Following a career as an engineer in the defense industry, Hank and Louise retired to Raleigh, North Carolina to be close to grandchildren.
A devout Catholic, helping people was always important to Henry. Wherever he lived, he was active in the community. In North Reading, it was often in sports and recreation. In Raleigh, he volunteered helping low-income people with their income taxes. He remained active, working as a starter at a golf course until age 90.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your preferred house of worship.
Services will be held in Raleigh, N.C. later this year. The date and time are yet to be determined.
