“He was one of the best track athletes I have coached,” sated Pioneers head coach Bill Wallace. “He tied the school record at 6’6”. He was the best in the league in the high jump. He also set the school record in heptathlon points. Besides being a talented athlete he was also a very dedicated leader and captain of the team. It will be tough to replace him next year.”

In the MIAA Meet of Champions earlier this month at Fitchburg State, Mendese tied for 12th in the high jump. He was 7th in the Div. 5 championship at Westfield State. He was first in the CAL Open last month at Triton with his jump of 6’6”.

Kelter was a second year All-Star in the triple jump as he made the CAL Second-Team All-Stars last year as a sophomore.

“Nick shattered the school record in this event,” pointed out Wallace. “He ended up jumping 46’3”. He also ended up getting 5th overall in the state and competed at the New England Championships. He was also very dedicated to his event. He went to great lengths to improve every time he jumped. It is because of this dedication that his teammates voted him as one of the captains for his senior year. I am looking forward to him competing next year.”

In the CAL Open, Kelter came in second at 44’6.25”. He then placed second in the Div. 5 meet. In the Meet of Champions he came in 5th at 46’3”.

Kelter captured 4th in New England’s down in Connecticut on June 14.

In the regular season, the Pioneers went 1-2 as they came in 3rd place in the CAL Baker Division.
