MELROSE — Five members of the Melrose High girls’ lacrosse team received postseason honors by the Middlesex League coaches.
Jill Frawley led the way as she was named the Middlesex League Freedom Division MVP. The midfielder made the All-Star team for the third year in a row.
In her stellar career, the senior captain had 139 goals, 80 assists, 143 ground balls and she won 260 draws.
Frawley, who will be playing at St. Michael’s College next year, was also named to the ML All-Conference team.
Chloe Arnold also made the ML All-Conference team along with the ML Freedom All-Star team. It was her second year on the All-Star roster.
The sophomore attacker, in her two years, has accumulated 152 goals, 26 assist and 53 ground balls. She also caused 26 turnovers.
The three other Melrose players to make the ML Freedom All-Star team this spring were Anna Matthews, Kiera Brophy and Izzy Costello as all three made the team for the first time.
Matthews, a sophomore attacker, has scored 82 goals in her two years on the team. She has 64 assists, 78 ground balls and caused 50 turnovers.
Brophy, a junior, spearheaded the defense.
“She was very dependable and consistent for us,” said Melrose second-year head coach Alicia Geiter, about the co-captain.
Costello, a senior, recorded 169 saves in goal as she went 14-5.
“She was amazing this year,” said Geiter.
This was a very successful year for Melrose as they reached the MIAA Division 2 state tournament before getting edged, 14-13, at Longmeadow in the Round of 16.
They first beat Whitman-Hansen, 16-3, in the first round.
Melrose finished the 2025 campaign at 14-5.
In the Middlesex League, they captured their first Freedom Division crown since 2019 going 6-0 against Freedom opponents. Overall, in the league, they were 8-3.
