Town issues termination notice for Hillview function hall

By MAUREEN DOHERTY

NORTH READING — Following the vote by Town Meeting in June to go forward with the planned demolition of the function hall facility at the Hillview Country Club rather than invest several million dollars in repairing the roof and making other structural upgrades to the building, the town has officially informed Ultra Chic Events that it will be terminating its operating licensing agreement with them effective April 1, 2026.

The letter, dated June 27, 2025 to Ultra Chic Events operated by Fabiana and Adilson Santos of Reading, states as follows:

“Dear Fabiana and Adilson:

It is with some sadness that we inform you that, pursuant to Section 1.3 of the License Agreement dated March 7, 2022 (the “Agreement”), this letter serves as formal notice that the Town is exercising its right to terminate the Agreement by providing you with nine (9) months’ written notice.

Accordingly, the Agreement will terminate effective as of April 1, 2026.

Please consider this notice final and binding in accordance with the terms of the Agreement. We remain available to work cooperatively and in good faith with you to coordinate an orderly transition.”

The letter is signed on behalf of the town by Town Administrator Michael P. Gilleberto and on behalf of the Hillview Commission by Chairperson George Stack.

The Hillview Commission will hold its next meeting on July 16 in the commission’s office at 149 North St. at 7 p.m. The agenda includes a report of the Function Building Subcommittee on the license termination notice, project overall timeline, procurement discussion and OPM agreement. Other agenda items include review of golf revenue for the end of FY25 and start of FY26; course improvement on Phase II work completed and ConCom Order of Conditons; and member reports.
