Burns named to softball All-Scholastic team

MOLLY BURNS — ALL-SCHOLASTIC

WAKEFIELD — Wakefield High’s Molly Burns was recently selected to the Boston Herald’s softball All-Scholastic team.

The sophomore shortstop hit .451 with 3 home runs, 28 RBI, a .579 on-base percentage and 21 runs scored this season, earning her second Middlesex League All-Star nod and the Freedom Division MVP.

There isn’t much you need to say about Molly after looking at her offensive stats. She just got it done,” said Wakefield head coach Chris Tolios after Burns was named the Freedom MVP. “Other coaches were afraid to pitch to her. What goes overlooked and shouldn’t, though, is her fielding. Every ball hit to shortstop was an automatic out. She had great range and saved a lot of hits and runs for us. What makes this even more of an impressive accolade is that she is an awesome kid. Couldn’t ask for a better girl to have all of this success and get this notoriety as only a sophomore.”

Burns and the Warriors had a memorable season, winning the Freedom Division title outright after splitting it last year. Wakefield finished 15-5 in the regular season, getting the No. 16 seed in the Div. 2 state tournament. They beat No. 17 North Attleboro 10-5 in the first round before falling to No. 1 Silver Lake in the Round of 16.

Burns is one of six All-Stars who will be returning to the team next season.
