NORTH READING — Join Maya Ortiz and her family and friends at Ipswich River Park this Saturday, July 19 for Trotting in Teal from noon to 3 p.m.
Ortiz, a rising sophomore in the pre-med track at UMass Amherst, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer midway through her senior year at NRHS in 2024. Together with her parents, Mayra and Erick Bolden; her best friends, Brianna Aalto, Mia Benecke and Lauren Feffer; and their families, she’s organized a two-mile walk in the park to raise awareness of ovarian cancer. It will also serve as a fund-raiser to benefit another young adult battling cancer. It’s Maya’s way of giving back to the community to thank everyone for the tremendous amount of support she has received, and to share that support with someone else who facing a similar struggle.
For a $40 donation, the celebratory event will also include lots of catered food and drinks, lawn games, music and goodie bags. The weather is forecasted to be fantastic so come on down to Ipswich River Park for a joyful celebration and remember to “never skip a beat through life!”
