WOBURN — Richard A. Griffin of Woburn, formerly of Wakefield, passed away on Saturday, July 5, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Denise Bishop-Griffin.
Born in Winchester and raised in Wakefield, Richard was the son of the late Albert and Mary (Seabury) Griffin. He was a graduate of Wakefield High School class of 1967. Following his high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country with pride.
He dedicated many years to Alliance Express, where he was responsible for delivering oil. He exhibited a commendable work ethic, demonstrating diligence and an unwavering commitment to his responsibilities.
Richard had a profound passion for golf. He served as the groundskeeper for Cedar Glen, Bear Hill, and Evergreen Valley. He enjoyed the sport alongside his sons. He also cherished building and operating model trains with his sons during their childhood, a passion he subsequently passed down to his grandsons.
As a devoted family man, Richard cherished every moment, creating memories that will be treasured for generations. His legacy of love, kindness, and dedication lives on through his family and the countless lives he touched.
He was the devoted father of Matthew Bishop, his wife Lauren of Haverhill; Jonathan Bishop, wife Samantha of Manchester, NH; Kimberly (Griffin) Huerta, her husband Mark of Groveland, and the late Amy Griffin. He was the dear brother of Ann Amaral of New Hampshire, Mary Edwards, her husband Tom of Woburn, Dorothy “Dotty” Hatch, her husband Scott of Peabody, and the late David Griffin and Jeannie Cargill. He was the cherished “Papa” to six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Richard is also survived by his loving extended family and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were previously provided by Lynch Cantillon Funeral Home.
