WAKEFIELD — The Loafers and Unknowns battled for the final playoff spot of the 2025 Twi League season last night at Moulton Park.
With the two teams tied 1-1 in head-to-head matchups, the winner would make the playoffs with the Loaf at 4-7 and the Orange at 4-6.
The Loafers rounded into playoff form during their final game of the regular season, going off for 11 runs and punching their ticket to the dance with an 11-5 victory, moving to 2-1 against the Unknowns. That head-to-head record means that even if the Unknowns beat the Slappers (6-3-1) tonight at Walsh Field, the Loafers will have the tiebreaker advantage.
The Loafers will now be rewarded with a matchup against the 10-0 Brewers in the first round of the Twi playoffs which also doubles as the semifinals as the top four of the six teams make the postseason.
The first round is a best-of-three series with the winners meeting in the finals for a best-of-five matchup.
The Slappers and Expos (5-6-1) will compete in the other first round matchup.
Joining the Unknowns on the sidelines this postseason is the High Life.
The Slappers, Expos and Loafers will now go to work on the daunting task of dethroning the Brewers, champions in each of the last four seasons. The Brew Crew look as strong as ever as they go for five in a row.
The Brewers and Slappers are scheduled to play the final game of the regular season tomorrow night. Although no playoff schedule is official, the first round will likely start either Sunday or Monday.
Playoff games typically take place at Moulton with first pitch set for 5:45 p.m. A full update on the playoff schedule will be announced on Friday.
