FRANKLIN — Wakefield’s Patrick Maloney competed in the 107th Massachusetts Junior Amateur Championship at Franklin Country Club on Aug. 4 and Aug. 5.
Maloney qualifying for the prestigious event was impressive enough. He went on to shoot a 147 over two days (+5) finishing in the top 35 out of 118 players.
Maloney, who is set to start his junior season as the No. 1 player and a captain for the Wakefield High golf team, had a round to remember on day 2 in Franklin when he shot a 70 (-1) including three birdies on holes 2, 12 and 15.
Maloney and the Warriors are currently preparing for the start of the 2025 season. The golf team is the first of the fall sports at Wakefield High to begin their regular season. They start next week, Wednesday, Aug. 27 with a home match against Woburn at the Thomson Country Club in North Reading.
The Warriors are coming off a terrific season last year in which they went 9-4-1 in the regular season, taking the Middlesex League Freedom Division title before going on to win the Div. 2 North Sectional Championship and finishing 8th at the Div. 2 State Finals.
