Artists invited to donate artwork to Apple Festival

By MAUREEN DOHERTY

NORTH READING — Artwork donated to the 31st Apple Festival will be displayed at the Flint Memorial Library from Thursday evening, August 21 through Friday afternoon, September 19 in the library’s Reading Room.

This year’s Apple Festival, to be hosted by the North Reading Historical and Antiquarian Society at the Rev. Daniel Putnam House, 27 Bow St., will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (rain date is Sunday, Sept. 21). More details on this beloved town tradition which features activities for all ages will be forthcoming.

A photo opportunity with the artists will take place at 7 p.m. tonight, August 21. Those artists who cannot attend at that time are free to drop off their donated artwork at the library either before and after that date.

Artists are invited to submit an artist’s statement regarding their piece for inclusion in the informational three-ring binder at the library.

The art show is held annually in advance of the Apple Festival to give the community an opportunity to view the works that will be included in either the art raffle or silent auction on the day of the festival. All artwork is moved from the library to be displayed inside the West Village Schoolhouse on the Putnam House grounds on the day of the festival. The silent auction and raffle closes at 2 p.m. that day and the winners are announced one hour before the festival ends.

Those with any questions about contributing their artwork to the largest fundraiser of the year for the benefit of the Historical Society’s preservation efforts of the town’s antiquities may contact Ginny Mills, Apple Festival Committee, by email: apple@nreadinghistory.org or phone: 978-857-6138.
