
WAKEFIELD — The fall sports season is underway with preseason practices and scrimmages continuing this week.
The first regular season action of the fall starts tomorrow with the reigning Div. 2 North Champion golf team hosting Woburn at Thomson Country Club.
The majority of the remaining fall teams will start their regular seasons next week.
Full previews of each team will appear along with recaps of early games over the next few weeks.
Multiple All-Stars are returning in various sports to lead the way in 2025.
For the golf team, juniors Patrick Maloney and Brayden Myette will bring All-Star credentials into the season. Maloney also earned All-Conference status. They will serve as two of Wakefield’s three captains along with Jake Morris.
The volleyball team will host Tewksbury on Sept. 2 for the season-opener. They return an All-Star in senior middle hitter Lila Arkinstall who led the Warriors in kills with 167 and hitting percentage with .315 last year. She is one of four senior captains this year along with Cara Carangelo, Tori Grace and Mia Kenny.
The boys’ soccer team will begin by hosting Arlington on Sept. 2. The Warriors lost last year’s league MVP, junior Jack Millward who led the state in scoring with 48 goals. Millward transferred to The Rivers School for his senior year. Wakefield still returns three All-Stars from last season’s Final Four appearance: seniors Matt Keefe and Aidan Bligh along with junior Alex De Morais. Bligh and Keefe will serve as captains along with Nik Dhingra.
The field hockey team kicks off the season on Sept. 3 in Arlington. They return two All-Stars this year: senior Allison Pesa and junior Marie Estrada. Pesa will serve as a captain along with Sophia DeAngelis and Maya Kenny. They are three of 12 seniors expected back for the Warriors this year.
The football team opens up on Sept. 5 at home against Greater Lawrence Tech. Senior Christian DiFlorio is a returning All-Star, ready to set the tone at linebacker.
The girls’ cross country team starts up on Sept. 9 in Lexington. They return senior All-Star Liza Bangtson.
The reigning Div. 4 state champion boys’ cross country team also begins Sept. 9 at Lexington. Leading the pack will be senior All-Star Devin DeBerardinis.
The Warrior girls’ swim team also starts on Sept. 9 with a home meet against Reading. Wakefield returns four All-Stars to the team this year: senior captain Lucy Wagner, junior Allie Degray, sophomore Carolyn Cote and sophomore Elie Wagner.
The girls’ soccer team graduated all four of their All-Stars from last season. They begin the regular season on Sept. 2 in Arlington.
