Talented artist and trucker who enjoyed hunting, nature, travel and making people laugh
NORTHERN MAINE — John David Prince Sr., 86, died August 7, 2025. He was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on March 25, 1939, the son of Gertrude (Merages) Prince and Leslie Prince Sr. He lived the early part of his life in Cambridge and later moved to North Reading, Massachusetts. His final move in 1989 was to Northern Maine where he spent the last 36 years of his life.
He was proud of the fact that he got his GED from Presque Isle High School. He was a multi-talented individual and worked in several industries during his early years. He eventually expanded his expertise and embarked on a career as a long distance truck driver, and proved to be very competent at that job. He spent several years in the National Guard. He enjoyed hunting and loved anything to do with nature. He especially enjoyed hunting with his nephew Wayne Prince, with whom he had a deep connection. He was a talented artist and did several paintings. He liked to travel and was fortunate enough to do so in his later years.
He had an amazing sense of humor, knew how to have fun, and always tried to make people laugh. John loved animals and had several pets over the years, and leaves behind two lovely cats.
John was preceded in death by Elaine Webster Prince, the mother of his children, and one son, Michael. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Berry, son Philip and his wife Deborah, daughter Leslie (Sweeney), sons John Jr., William, and Joseph Pires. He also leaves several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at Riverside Cemetery, 159 Elm St., North Reading, Massachusetts on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 11:30 a.m.
