LOWELL — Last Saturday morning, the Lynnfield High boys’ soccer team beat host Lowell Collegiate Charter, 3-1, in a non-league match.

With the win, the Pioneers improved to 2-0-1 overall.

Just like the first two games, the Pioneers fell behind as the hosts scored six minutes into the game.

That lead held until there was just over 18 minutes left in the game as Ollie Morgan tied it assisted by John Powers.

Senior co-captain, Mohammed Ayari, scored the eventual game-winning goal nine minutes later unassisted.

A few minutes later, Ayari made it 3-1 assisted by exchange student Alex Benito. Benito, who is from Spain, is a freshman.

“We had some nice passing on that play,” pointed out Pioneers head coach Brent Munroe.

Senior goalkeeper, Dino Gesamondo, made six saves.

“We won that game without Rocco (Scenna) so to accomplish that is a very big deal,” said Munroe.

On Sept. 4, the Pioneers tied Triton, 1-1, up in Byfield.

“They are a rebuilding team but they played us very hard,” said Munroe. “We also did not play our best game.”

Late in the first half, the Vikings scored first. In the 14th minute of the second half, Scenna tied the game unassisted.

Gesamondo turned back three Viking shots.

With the tie, the Pioneers went to 1-0-1 in the Cape Ann League.

Lynnfield opened the 2025 campaign on Sept. 2 as they visited Newburyport. Trailing 1-0 at the break, the Pioneers scored twice in the second stanza to pull out a 2-1 win.

“They outplayed us but we got lucky in the second half,” acknowledged Munroe.

Scenna scored both LHS goals.

With a little over 20 minutes remaining, Morgan got fouled in the box and Scenna scored on the penalty kick to tie the game.

Later on, Scenna found the back of the Clipper net on a free kick.

Gesamondo made seven stops in this game.

On Sept. 11, the Pioneers visit Georgetown. They then play their home opener on Sept. 16 as they face Hamilton-Wenham. Both of those games will start at 4:30 p.m.
