Girls’ soccer cruises past Triton for first win

LYNNFIELD — On Sept. 4, the Lynnfield High girls’ soccer team pounded Triton, 8-1, at home. It was the first win of the year for the Pioneers who improved to 1-1 overall and in the Cape Ann League.
“After our loss to Newburyport, we came out ready to go from the start,” pointed out Pioneers head coach Mark Vermont.
This game was decided early as the Pioneers scored seven times in the opening half to lead 7-1. The final tally took place early in the second half.
Kaylee Barrett led the way with four points as the junior had two goals and two assists.
Fellow 11th-grader, Ava Damiani, had two goals and one assist while freshman Bella Clancy also scored twice.
Senior co-captain, Giada Antidormi, had one goal and one assist while Hannah Doherty had the other tally.
Pioneer goalie, Victoria Minor, improved to 2-0 as she made three saves playing until halfway through the second half.
Sabrina Hayman mopped up in net and the sophomore turned back two Viking shots.
In the season-opener on Sept. 2, the Pioneers were shut out, 3-0, by visiting Newburyport.
“They have a very strong team,” stated Vermont.
Sevilla Coffin was the star of the day for the Clippers with two goals and one assist.
She scored the game’s first goal on a free kick four minutes in. Coffin then assisted on the second goal in the 32nd minute scored by Alofe Tykulsky
With a little over 10 minutes left, Coffin scored again.
“They were the better team in the first half,” acknowledged Vermont. “We were able to control the second half but couldn’t capitalize on our scoring chances.”
Minor made 10 stops in net as she was very busy all afternoon.
“Victoria played well,” said Vermont.
On Sept. 11, the Pioneers host Georgetown at 6 p.m.
Lynnfield then plays its first road game of the year on Sept. 16 as they visit Hamilton-Wenham. That game will start at 4 p.m.
