BYFIELD — On Tuesday afternoon, the North Reading High boys’ soccer team traveled to Byfield to take on Triton. They ended up coming home with a 3-0 win to go to 2-0 overall and in the Cape Ann League.
“We had good control of the game,” said Hornets head coach Mark Bisognano. “They never were able to get a shot on net.”
In the 19th minute, Davi Leao scored assisted by fellow senior captain, Gavin Wesley.
Leao then made it 2-0 in the final minute of the opening half assisted by junior Asher Schulz.
The final tally came in the 70th minute as Wesley found the back of the Vikings net assisted by Schulz.
Sophomore goalkeeper Dylan O’Driscoll did not face a shot on net as he improved to 2-0.
In the season-opener last Thursday afternoon, the Hornets rolled over Newburyport, 6-1, at home.
“It was a strange game,” said Bisognano. “We cashed in on our good chances and even our half-chances.”
North Reading led this game 2-0 at the half.
Wesley got the scoring started in the fifth minute assisted by Nolan Pierce.
Joe Serra then made it 2-0 on a penalty kick as the Hornets got fouled in the Clippers’ box.
Serra, in the 43rd minute, then made it 3-0 with a 30–yard shot assisted by Joe Foiadelli.
In the 45th minute, Leao scored assisted by Serra to make it 4-0.
The Clippers’ goal came on a penalty kick in the 50th minute to cut the lead to three.
Wesley then scored the Hornets’ fifth goal with Serra assisting again in the 63rd minute.
Leao then capped off the scoring in the 67th minute with Pierce assisting.
O’Driscoll made four saves.
For Serra, it was a game to remember with four points.
“He is making the most of his opportunity,” said Bisognano, about the senior. “His best asset is that he hits a clean ball.”
The next game for the Hornets will be on Sept. 11 as they visit Ipswich at 4:30 p.m.
On Sept. 16, North Reading welcomes Manchester-Essex with that game starting at 4:45 p.m.
