UPDATE: Girls’ soccer (5-0-1) cruises past Manchester Essex and Ipswich

NORTH READING — On Tuesday, the North Reading High girls’ soccer team defeated Triton, 5-1, at home. The Hornets took command of this game in the first half as they were up 4-0 at the break.

With the win, the Hornets improved to 2-0-1 overall and in the Cape Ann League.

Allie Lanciani scored just 2:35 in assisted by Kiersten Higgins. Higgins then made it 2-0 at the 5:25 mark assisted by Reilly Tassinari.

Tassinari then had the third goal, assisted by Higgins, 9:28 in.

Ariana Demetri made it 4-0 with an unassisted goal at 28:13.

In the second half, Higgins scored the fifth tally at 32:40. Tassinari picked up her second assist.

The Vikings avoided the shutout at the 78:56 mark of the game as Olivia Dono scored.

Maya Grossi played in net the first half and made one save to record the win and go to 2-0.  Hannah Frew then made three stops in the second half.

On Sept. 4, the Hornets played host Newburyport to a scoreless tie.

Frew made seven saves in net as she played the entire game.

In the season-opener on Sept. 2, the Hornets traveled to Pentucket and won 5-0.

The Hornets led the Panthers, 2-0, at the half.

Lanciani, scored the first tally 7:56 in assisted by Demetri. Higgins made it 2-0 at the 19:46 mark with the assist going to Tassinari.

Just 2:33 into the second half, Demetri made it 3-0 assisted by Paige Mathews.

At the 8:40 mark, Tassinari scored, assisted by Lanciani.

Lanciani then found the back of the Panther net again, 10:07 in for the final tally.

Grossi was the staring goalie in the first half and she did not have to make any saves. Frew played in net the second stanza and turned back three shots.

On Thursday, the Hornets host Ipswich at 4:30 p.m. They then visit Manchester-Essex at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 16.
