Abbey Romeo to sing at Apple Festival Sept. 20

NORTH READING — It’s September in North Reading, which means it’s Apple Festival time!

On Saturday, September 20 (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.), come on down to the Rev. Daniel Putnam House property at 27 Bow St. for the 31st Annual North Reading Apple Festival. As always, it will be a family-friendly day of fun, food, live music, arts, crafts, and camaraderie in our town’s beautiful historic district. If it rains, the festival will be postponed to Sunday.

Special guest singer Abbey Romeo

This year, the Apple Festival will be opened by Abbey Romeo, star of the Emmy-winning Netflix series “Love On The Spectrum.” An accomplished vocalist, Abbey recently performed her original song “Boyfriend Forever” on The Kelly Clarkson Show. Abbey spent many summers in North Reading with her grandparents, Pat and Frank Romeo, who were longtime residents of North Reading and very instrumental in the preservation of the town’s historical buildings and antiquities on the Putnam House grounds.

Since 1995, the North Reading Historical and Antiquarian Society has organized the Apple Festival to celebrate the town’s bygone orchards and raise funds to preserve and protect local history. This year, the Apple Festival will feature 50-plus local artists, crafters and vendors, apple pie and ice cream, live entertainment, gift card and 50/50 raffles, lots of food and drink, pony rides, face painting, kids activities, silent art auction and local artwork raffle.

A cornerstone of the event is the Classic Apple Pie Contest open to both adult and youth bakers who reside in town (for complete rules, visit: nreadinghistory.org).

The 1720 Putnam House and barn, Farm Museum, West Village School House, First Meeting House and Sergeant Flint House will also be open to the public.

For more information about the Apple Festival, check out the Society’s website (nreadinghistory.org), follow on Facebook, or send an email to: apple@nreadinghistory.org.
