USMC veteran, electrician, pilot, business owner

WAKEFIELD — Norman O. Johnson Jr., age 92, of Wakefield and formerly of Randolph, died September 9, 2025 at his residence.

He was born in Randolph on April 16, 1933 and was the son of the late Norman O. Johnson and Annie (Brown) Johnson.

He was raised in Randolph and graduated from Randolph High School. He then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country during the Korean era. He went to an electrical apprentice program and then entered the union and remained a member of Local 103. 

He married Sandra (Eagar) Dam in 1979 and soon after adopted her two children and the family happily settled in Wakefield. They purchased a home in Wells, ME and opened a country shop and bed and breakfast, The Country Peddler. Mr. Johnson enjoyed airplanes and had his pilot’s license. He made very good friends during his summers in Maine. Most of all, he loved his grandchildren and the role of “Papa.”

He was the beloved husband of the late Sandra (Eagar) Dam Johnson. He was the loving father of Timothy S. Johnson and his wife Tonya of Wakefield and Melissa Johnson of Wakefield. He was the proud “Papa” of Kaiden, Colbie, and Teaghan. He was the brother of Marilyn Gould of Reading and the late Helen Van Dam and Robert Johnson. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be held in the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday, September 18 at 11:30 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held prior to the service beginning at 9:30 a.m. Interment, Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.
