
LEXINGTON — The Wakefield High boys’ cross country team opened up their season with a scrimmagem crossover meet against Lexington on Tuesday on the Minutemen’s home course. The Warriors will remain on the road all season without a home course due to the construction at WMHS.
Lexington is predicted to be one of the favorites for the number one team in the state and have tremendous talent and depth. The Minutemen got the win 18 to Wakefield’s 43.
Devin DeBerardinis placed 3rd running over a minute faster than his time from last year on the same course with 17:18.
Alec Buonopane-Cohen improved on his opener from last year to finish 7th in 18:06.
Junior Sean Marra took nearly two minutes off last year’s opener as the Warriors’ 3rd runner finishing 11th in 19:22. Senior Ryan Paige was 12th in 19:24, a 90-second improvement.
Junior Taylor Miller was 13th with a two-minute improvement of 19:27. Junior Evan Buonopane-Cohen was 14th, with more than a minute improvement of 19:35. Sophomore Noah Morrisseau placed 15th improving by over four minutes with his time of 19:38. Senior Aidan Burd was 16th in 19:41. Junior Brendan Pritchard was 19th improving by over two minutes running 20:08. Sophomore Max Levine improved by over five-and-a-half minutes to place 20th in 20:11.
The JV team had better luck and came away with the 26-31 victory. Junior Zach Richardson led the group with a strong 2nd place finish running an improved 19:48. Newcomer, sophomore Nick Hurley had a strong debut placing 4th in 20:37. Junior Zach Davidson placed 5th with a nearly three-minute improvement of 20:45. Sophomore Connor Moulton had nearly a four-minute improvement to place 6th in 20:52. Sophomore Jack Ellis improved by seven-and-a-half minutes from last year to place 9th in 21:42. Senior Ethan Caldo placed 10th with an improved time of 22:11. Sophomore Charlie Sloss rounded out the final scoring runner placing 11th with a two-minute improvement of 22:35.
The Warriors begin the defense of their Middlesex League Freedom Division title tomorrow at 4 p.m. as they head to Burlington to take on the Red Devils.
