GEORGETOWN — On Sept. 11, the Lynnfield High boys’ soccer team won, 5-1, at Georgetown. With that victory, the Pioneers improved to 3-0-2 overall and 2-0-2 in the Cape Ann League.

“We played pretty well,” said Pioneers head coach Brent Munroe. “It was nice that we were able to finish.”

Senior Mohammed Ayari, scored the game’s first goal five minutes in assisted by junior Ollie Morgan.

Three minutes later, the Royals tied it on a free kick.

Senior co-captain Rocco Scenna scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 13th minute with Morgan picking up his second assist.

Ten minutes later, Scenna found the back of the Royal net again with Ayari getting the assist this time.

With just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half, senior co-captain, Nate Zalvan, made it 4-1 assisted by freshman Alex Benito.

Midway through the second half, Morgan got the final tally assisted by Zalvan.

Kellen Farias made his debut in goal and the junior made four saves.

On Sept. 9, the Pioneers traveled to Danvers to take on Essex Tech. That game ended in a scoreless draw.

“We had a slight advantage in play and hit the post three times so we were a little disappointed with the outcome,” admitted Munroe.

The Pioneers out-shot the Hawks, 12-7.

“Their goalie and defense played very well,” said Munroe.

Pioneer senior goalkeeper, Dino Gesamondo, made seven saves to go to 2-0-2.

Lynnfield hosted Hamilton-Wenham on Tuesday after press time. Their next game will be on Thursday as they go to rival North Reading for a night game. That contest will be at 6 p.m.

The Hornets are the defending CAL Kinney Division champions.

On Monday, the Pioneers welcome Pentucket at 4 p.m.
