Loved raising her family and traveling

WAKEFIELD — Eileen M. (Walsh) Fitzgerald, 100, of Wakefield passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 16 with her son Kevin by her side. Born in Wakefield, MA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph P. and Mary J (Aldworth) Walsh.

 Eileen was a lifelong resident of Wakefield. She was a graduate of Wakefield High School and attended Miss Fay’s Secretarial School. She worked at New England Telephone as a bookkeeper and in 1950 she married her beloved husband Bernard and raised a family of six children.

Eileen was a devout Catholic and was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church in Wakefield and also attended St. Lucy’s Church in Methuen. She was a member of the Knights and Ladies of the Holy Sepulcher, the Mother’s Club and St. Lucy Sodality. Eileen loved raising her family and taking care of anyone that was in need. She also enjoyed traveling.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Bernard Fitzgerald and her children Bernard and Mary-Ann Fitzgerald. Eileen is survived by her sons Kevin Fitzgerald of Wakefield; John Fitzgerald, James Fitzgerald of PA; and Barry Fitzgerald and his wife Margaret of Lexington; her grandchildren Sean Fitzgerald, Liam Fitzgerald, Caroline Caito and her husband Austin, Shawn Fitzgerald and Peter Fitzgerald; her great-grandchildren Maeve and Quinn. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral Mass on Saturday, September 27 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield. Burial will follow in Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to St. Joseph’s Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield, MA 01880 or St. Lucy’s Church, 254 Merrimack St., Methuen, MA 01844.
