NORTH READING — On Tuesday afternoon, the North Reading High golf team won its first match of the season as they beat guest Essex Tech, 172-157, at Hillview Golf Course on a warm, cloudy day.
“The kids were very excited,” stated Hornets second-year head coach Jon Kiniry.
Three Hornets broke the 30-point mark (Stableford scoring). Conrad Gerber led the team with 34 points while fellow senior captain, Leo Romanski, scored 33.
Dylan Harris was third with 32 points.
“All three showed up big and I was proud of them,” said Kiniry.
North Reading was able to split the season series against the Hawks.
The day before, the Hornets fell, 180-166, to visiting Triton.
“They have some good freshmen including one that scored 34 points,” pointed out Kiniry. “They are going to be very good the next few years.”
The Vikings swept the season series with the victory.
Romanski had 32 points to lead the way. Noah Salvatierra scored 29 while Harris added 28.
On Sept. 18, the Hornets were edged, 183-177, by guest Newburyport.
“We had four guys shoot in the 30’s” said Kiniry. “They just had more scoring depth than we did.”
Romanski and John Harty both led the Hornets with 33 points. Salvatierra had 32 while Gerber had 31. The Clippers also swept the season series.
On Sept. 25, the Hornets face host Lynnfield at Sagamore Spring. The team then travels to the Haverhill Country Club on Sept. 30 to take on Pentucket. Both of those matches will start at 3:15 p.m.
