GEORGETOWN — The North Reading High volleyball team stayed undefeated on Monday afternoon as they beat Georgetown, 3-0, on the road. The Hornets won the three sets, 25-15, 25-12, and 25-19.

With the win, the Hornets improved to 8-0 overall and 7-0 in the Cape Ann League.

“We played well and were in control the majority of the match,” said North Reading head coach Mike Milone. “That gym is tough because it is small and has a low ceiling.”

Senior co-captain, Sydney Scholz led the team in kills with eight and she tied junior, Willow Koepke, in service aces with five. Koepke led the Hornets in assists as well with 24.

Libero, Emery Cordero, had a team-high five digs while Bailey Little had one block.

Julia Pemberton made her first start of the season and she had five kills.

“Julia also had a positive hitting percentage,” added Milone.

On Sept. 18, the Hornets won at Hamilton-Wenham by a final score of 3-0.

North Reading won the three sets against the Generals, 25-22, 25-10, and 25-20.

“We started off slow and trailed, 7-1, in game one,” pointed out Milone.

From there the team was able to turn things around.

Senior, Ella Maier, had eight kills while Lee Sandovich had three blocks. Cordero had eight digs while Koepke had 20 assists.

Milone was also impressed with the play of Lucy Wells who had four service aces and eight digs.

“She gave us a spark on offense and defense,” said Milone.

The Hornets have a huge match coming up on Sept. 26 as they host rival, Lynnfield, at 5:15 p.m.

North Reading then welcomes Triton on Sept. 29 with that match starting at 5:30 p.m.
