NORTH READING — On Tuesday afternoon, the North Reading High girls’ soccer team beat Essex Tech, 5-3, at home. With that victory, the Hornets improved to 5-1-1 overall and in the Cape Ann League.

North Reading led this game, 3-1, at the half.

Reilly Tassinari scored 3:36 in, assisted by Allie Lanciani. The Hawks tied it at 15:32 as Julia Killianidis scored.

Lanciani, assisted by Reilly Tassinari, combined for the next two goals. The first one was at the 34:19 mark while the next one was at the 37:31 mark.

Essex Tech’s Lucy Gaddis scored 5:46 into the second stanza to cut the lead to one. However, Lanciani notched her hat trick 13:30 in to make the lead two again as that tally was unassisted.

Gaddis then cut the lead to one again at the 31:18 mark but a goal by freshman Isabella Bouchard, with 2:05 remaining closed the door. Lanciani assisted.

It was Bouchard’s first varsity goal.

Maya Grossi played in net the first half and got the win making one stop to go to 4-0. Hannah Frew played in net the second half and made three saves.

“Our front line really found a rhythm tonight,” said Hornets head coach Sean Killeen. “Reilly and Allie were outstanding. When we move the ball quickly, we create a lot of problems for defenses.”

Killeen had a lot of respect for the Hawks.

“They kept coming at us and we had to absorb some tough moments, but feel like we were able to stay present and work our way through the challenges,” said Killeen.

Killeen was also happy for Bouchard who he feels, is an excellent teammate and hard worker.

It was a good bounce-back win as it was a rough game for the Hornets on Sept. 18 when they were shut out, 5-0, by visiting Lynnfield.

Pioneers forward, Ava Damiani, did most of the damage scoring four times.

“We had no answer for her,” admitted Killeeen.”She put pressure on our back line and finished just about every opportunity created for her. We will have to do a better job containing her the next time we play.”

Damiani scored her first goal 5:14. Her second tally came at 21:10.

In the second half, Damiani made it 3-0 just 1:38 in. Her fourth goal came 13:27 in.

The final goal was scored by Giada Antidormi 36 seconds later.

“It was a tough game for us,” said Killeen. “Lynnfield is a very talented, hardworking team. I give credit to them as they punished our mistakes and showed why they’re always a top team in the Cape Ann League.”

On Sept. 25, the Hornets host Rockport at 4:30 p.m. They then welcome Pentucket on Sept. 30 at 4:45 p.m.
