LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield Art Guild (LAG) is holding a new art exhibit called “Glimpses of India” at the Lucius Beebe Memorial Library in Wakefield in October.
LAG members Maya Jacob and Shaila Desai will be displaying a collection for the entire month of October 2025.
“This collaborative exhibit is a nostalgic journey through India, captured through the eyes of two artists who share a common heritage,” said LAG member Beth Aaronson. “Their paintings, created from photographs taken over the years, bring a variety of scenes to life — from serene rural landscapes and seascapes to bustling street scenes and intimate portraits.”
Jacob has been sketching and painting since she was a little girl.
“Drawing and painting are an integral part of my life,” said Jacob.
As a “people person,” Jacob is drawn to capturing human experiences and is rarely without a small sketchbook to record her daily life. She works primarily in graphite, watercolor and acrylic, with color serving as her primary muse.
Desai’s passion for art was nurtured in a home that always encouraged creativity. She finds inspiration in nature, global travel, and the “hustle and bustle” of urban street scenes.
“I am fascinated by the interplay of light and shadows, color, and contrast,” said Desai.
Desai’s goal is to create art that conveys the same sense of awe that inspired her to paint it. She works in watercolors, pastels, and acrylics.
Both artists have participated in numerous shows and have won recognition for their work. They feel immense joy in sharing this special collection with the community. The art exhibit will be available to view whenever the Lucius Beebe Memorial Library is open.
