Family was his greatest pride and joy
NORTH READING — David Morton, 83, of North Reading passed away peacefully on August 21 surrounded by his loving family. A devoted husband, father and respected local businessman, David lived a full life built on love, hard work and a deep commitment to his family, company, the church and community.
Born and raised in Lynnfield, David was the beloved son of the late Chester and Esther Morton of Lynnfield. He was a proud resident of North Reading for the past 37 years, having previously lived in Reading and Wakefield.
In 1967, David established Morton & Company in Wakefield, building it from the ground up into a trusted name in the business community. As the company grew, it later headquartered in Wilmington with operations in the United States, England and Ireland where it continued to serve customers with the same values David embodied: integrity, dedication and care. He successfully ran the business for over five decades before selling it in 2019. Even after the sale, David stayed on to help the new owner transition the management and ensure that his trusted and respected employees had a successful and smooth transition.
David was a man who believed in hard work, but his greatest pride and joy was always his family. He was married to the love of his life Janice for an incredible 64 1/2 years, a beautiful partnership that inspired everyone who knew them. Together, they built a warm, welcoming home and a family rich in love and laughter.
David is survived by his beloved wife Janice (Fazio) Morton of North Reading and their four children Tamara (Troy) Moreau, Wendy (Dave) Castine, Tiffney (Anthony) Piccoli and David Jay (Delphine) Morton. He will be deeply missed by his twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, lifelong friends and the many people whose lives he touched through both his business and personal kindness. To all, he was not just Dave, Dad or Grampy, but a source of wisdom, comfort and unending love.
Faithful to God, humble, strong and endlessly kind, David was a rock for his family. He guided us through life’s storms, celebrated our victories and quietly made the world better through his steady love, relationship with the Lord and respect for all people.
His warm smile, sharp wit and unwavering work ethic will be remembered by all who knew him. Whether it was in the office, around the dinner table or simply during a quiet moment in his North Reading home, David’s presence was a steady and loving force in the lives of many.
Private services were held by McDonald Funeral Home of Wakefield and a public funeral Mass was celebrated with family and friends at St Theresa’s Church in North Reading on September 4. Visit mcdonaldfs.com.
