NORTH READING — Over the summer, the Buckley and Valade families were excited to meet both recipients of the Jay Valade and Paul Buckley 2025 Scholarship for Altruism—Ava Collins and Erin Hatton.
Both Collins and Hatton received several recommendations from the North Reading faculty highlighting their altruistic qualities. Below are some words written about these wonderful ladies:
“Ava consistently puts the needs and interests of others ahead of her own. Her work with and dedication to our Unified students is a perfect example of this. Ava devotes a great deal of her free to time to community outreach. She helped organize the first ‘Polar Plunge’ at a Massachusetts high school to raise money for those with physical and intellectual disabilities. Ava is an exceptional student and amazing person with a very kind heart.”
“Erin is a truly selfless individual who gives herself to the whole NRHS community. She is a hero of mine. She is a champion of all things Unified. She is an active member of the school’s Unified Basketball and Bocce teams. She completed an internship with another teacher’s room, fulfilled the role of Vice President for NRHS Student Council and was always available to help younger Student Council members.
Ava is attending the University of South Carolina where she is majoring in marketing. Erin is attending Sacred Heart University to pursue a major in nursing. Both the Buckley and Valade families wish Ava and Erin the best at college this fall as they pursue their dreams.
