Enjoyed tennis and summers in Popponesset
WAKEFIELD — Mary M. “Mitzi” Gallahue, 88, of Wakefield died Thursday October 2 at the Cornerstone at Canton Assisted Living Facility.
Mitzi was born in Hingham on April 28, 1937 and was the daughter of the late Mary M. and Walter J. “Tipper” Faria. She was raised in Hingham and was a graduate of Hingham High School class of 1955. Mitzi went on to get her bachelor’s in teaching from Endicott College. In support of their family business Gallahue’s Supermarket, Mitzi went on to work as the office manager.
Mitzi enjoyed competitive sports. She was on the varsity field hockey team from her sophomore year through graduation. She was a member of the Varsity “H” Club which helps improve athletic facilities and programs. She also enjoyed playing tennis, attending her children’s sporting events and was most happy enjoying summers with her family and friends in Popponesset.
Mitzi was the beloved wife of Frank Gallahue. She was the loving mother of Francis Gallahue Jr. of Billerica; David Gallahue of Stoneham; and Dianne Sica of Canton. She was the sister of Elizabeth A. “Betty” (Faria) McGrath and Walter J. “Butch” Faria. Mitzi was the grandmother of Kelly, Brendan, David Jr., Lauren, Patrick, Vinny, Braydon, Courtney and Casey. She was the great grandmother to Dominic and Roman, Harper and Oliver. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Tuesday, October 7 from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield at 11:30 a.m. Directly following the Mass, the burial service will be held at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
