WAKEFIELD — On Monday, October 6, 2025, Wakefield welcomed a new Town Administrator. Denise Y. Casey was officially sworn in by Town Clerk Betsy Sheeran at a ceremony in Town Hall. She succeeds Stephen P. Maio, who retired in July after 17 years in the position.

Casey has 26 years of municipal experience, most recently serving as the Deputy Town Manager in North Andover. She previously served as the Assistant Town Manager in Wilmington and the Human Resources Director in Lexington. Casey is an adjunct professor at Suffolk University’s Institute for Public Service, Moakley Center Sawyer Business School, and has a master’s degree in public administration.

“One of my first priorities is to get to know Wakefield’s residents, staff, nonprofit organizations, and business community,” stated Casey. “Listening to what community members have on their minds is a critical first step, and I want to take every opportunity to meet people where they are.”

In August, Wakefield’s Town Council voted to appoint Casey to the position after an extensive search and selection process. Casey, a Danvers resident, was among three finalists presented to the Council by the project’s Screening Committee.

“It’s a really exciting time for Wakefield,” noted Town Council Chair Mehreen Butt. “There’s so much opportunity ahead of us, and I am confident that Denise is the right leader to carry us forward.”

Denise Casey will be based in Town Hall, located at 1 Lafayette St.
