Cross country teams hold their own at Bay State Invitational

WRENTHAM—The Melrose High boys and girls cross country teams competed among the best at the annual MSTCA Bay State Invitational held at the Wrentham Development Center on Sept. 27.
Melrose enjoyed solid showings on both sides as the girls placed 6th with 157 points and the boys team placed 7th with 185 points.
Teams from all corners of Massachusetts competed at the event and Melrose cracked some top spots in the varsity race.
On the boy’s side, senior Henry McCormack represented Melrose’s best time and landed in the top 10 with a personal record time of 16:25, good enough for the tenth spot. Teammate Ben Dugan was Melrose’s second best finish with a 28th place showing. He was followed by teammates Eliot Barber, Anderson Ji, Caleb Sanna, Luke McAndrew and Joseph Couglin.
Over on the girls side, Melrose also landed a runner in the top 10 spot among all competition thanks to the efforts of Reilly Powell, who finished tenth. Her teammate Naomi Breay was 17th. Their teammates followed by the efforts of Dahlia Wilson (34th) Violeta Rechea, Teagan Altman, Ainsley Ludlum, Mirabel Blanchard, Audrey Davies, Adelina Barnes.
At press time, both Melrose squads also defeated rival Stoneham in dual meet action on Tuesday at Pine Banks, with results not available. Both teams have improved to 2-1 on the season.
The teams will continue their league meet play next Tuesday when they host Wilmington at Pine Banks for a 4:15 p.m. meet.
