DANVERS — On Oct. 9, the Lynnfield High girls’ soccer team shut out host Essex Tech, 3-0, up in Danvers on a cool, sunny day. The Pioneers were able to complete the season sweep over the Hawks as they won the first meeting also by a 3-0 count back on Sept. 9.

Kaylee Barrett was the star of this game as she had one goal and a pair of assists.

“She has been a huge player for us,” stated Pioneers head coach Mark Vermont, about the junior. “She is very lethal and has a tremendous soccer IQ.”

Barrett assisted on Hannah Ozanian’s goal in the fourth minute as the Pioneers went to halftime up 1-0.

Barrett then had a second crossing pass in the 69th minute that Sofia Giardina put home to make it 2-0.

Ten minutes later, Barrett scored off a corner kick by Giada Antidormi for the final tally of the day.

Pioneer goalkeeper, Victoria Minor, had an easy day in net having to make only one save to improve to 9-2.

Overall, and in the Cape Ann League, the Pioneers improved to 10-2 with the victory.

On Oct. 7, the Pioneers won at Manchester-Essex, 5-1.

“The game was closer than the final score indicated,” said Vermont. “We pulled away later in the game.”

The Hornets are coached by former Lynnfield star Scout Grifoni (Benson) who graduated in 2012 as Vermont was her coach.

The Hornets scored first, 10 minutes into the game. Barrett tied it with an unassisted goal in the 18th minute.

Antidormi scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 32nd minute assisted by Ava Damiani.

Just two minute into the second half, Hannah Doherty made it 3-1 assisted by Damiani.

“That was the key goal,” recalled Vermont. “When you can score early in either half that can turn into a big momentum swing and it did for us.”

Ella Pascucci made it 4-1 in the 52nd minute as Damiani picked up her third assist while Ava Ragusa scored the final goal in the 75th minute assisted by Bella Clancy.

Minor made five saves in net.

On Oct. 16, the Pioneers visit Rockport at 6 p.m. They then host Danvers on Oct. 18 at 3 p.m. in their first non-league game of the season.

That game against the Falcons is the Pioneers Senior Day and Lynnfield Youth Soccer day as well.

Before the game, the four Pioneers 12th-graders will be honored.

On Oct. 21, Lynnfield hosts Amesbury at 4 p.m.

The Pioneers ended this week ranked 7th in the MIAA Division 3 power rankings.
