NORTH READING — North Reading’s veterans and their guests will be treated to a special Veterans Day Breakfast on Thursday, Nov. 13 at the Moose Lodge, 140 North St., from 10 a.m. to noon.
The event is free for each veteran and one guest but attendees must RSVP by Monday, Nov. 3 by calling the town’s Veterans Department at 978-664-6012. Free transportation to the event is also available in the Senior Center van if needed. Simply make the request when making your reservation.
The breakfast is also an opportunity for veterans to meet the town’s new Director of Veterans’ Services, Christopher Thomann, who joined the staff in August.
Veterans will be honored during the breakfast with a special slideshow presentation of photos submitted to the office by veterans and their families. The goal is to make the event “a memorable celebration of service, sacrifice, and community spirit,” commented Thomann.
Another feature of this year’s Veterans’ Day Breakfast will be a lighthearted segment of “friendly roasts” between the various branches of service from a collection of good-natured jokes about the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and Space Force submitted by veterans and compiled by the department.
The Veterans Day Breakfast is a joint effort between the North Reading Veterans Department, the Veterans Event Committee, and the Edith O’Leary Senior Center.
