WOBURN—Straight off their Middlesex Freedom League sweeps, the Melrose High boy’s and girls cross country team competed in the annual 2025 Middlesex League Meet held on Monday, Oct. 27 at Woburn Country Club. Both teams proved why they’re the best in the Freedom, topping their league rivals with 6th place overall finishes, just behind their ML large school competition.

The boy’s team was led by Henry McCormack (20th) who earned his PR with a time of 16:10.19. He was followed closely by teammates John Strong (23rd) and Ben Dugan (24) while Melrose rounded out the top 30 with a finish by Dan Teittenen in 29th. Among those also finishing in the varsity race were John Myers, Elliot Barber and Anderson Ji.

The Melrose girls’ team also finished a solid 6th behind the top finishes of their winner Reilly Powell who had a strong 4th place finish overall. Teammates Naomi Breay (25th) and Violeta Rechea (28th) were next followed by teammates Ainsley Ludlum, Mirabel Blanchard, Teagan Altman and Adelina Barnes.

With both the league meet and dual meet season behind them, Melrose will now focus on their post season efforts which includes a probable appearance at the Div. 2 Finals at Northfield Mountain on Nov. 8 and another likely appearance at the Frank Mooney Invitational this weekend in Wrentham.

Stay tuned.
