NORTH READING — On Tuesday evening, the North Reading High volleyball team hosted Weston in the MIAA Division 3 Round of 16.

The Wildcats, who play in the tough Dual County League, ended up winning the match 3-0 to end the Hornets’ season.

“They are a very, very good team,” said North Reading head coach Mike Milone. “They play a lot of Division 1 teams in their league and that helps them once they get into the tournament.”

Weston won the three sets, 25-13, 25-22 and 25-12.

With the loss, the 8th-seeded Hornets ended the year at 17-3. Meanwhile, the 9th-seeded Wildcats improved to 11-9.

In the first round on Nov. 1, the Hornets defeated 25th-seeded Burncoat 3-1 at home. With the loss, Burncoat, a school located in Worcester, ended the season at 15-4.

“They were a solid team,” said Milone. “But we were able to do a good job with terminating the ball.”

The Hornets won the first two sets, 25-14 and 25-18. The Patriots won set three, 25-18, but the Hornets closed it out in set four winning, 25-23.

Willow Koepke led the Hornets in assists with 33 and service aces with 3. Ella Maier had a team-high 16 kills.
